OUTRAGE ON SOVEREIGN STREET!

Dastardly Attack on Manchester’s Civil Order—Heroic Guardsmen Prevail Against Midnight Treachery

By Livia Penworth and Derrin Lought, Senior Correspondents for The Royal Standard

The peace of our great capital was shattered in the small hours of the morning of October 11th by an audacious and cowardly assault upon the Subsidiary Detention Center at the corner of Sovereign Street and Hammermill Lane.

Between midnight and one o’clock, a band of lawless marauders—masked and armed to the teeth—stormed the facility, murdered loyal Guardsmen at their posts, and unleashed a horde of convicts into the sleeping city. The attack, clearly planned with malicious cunning, represents one of the most disgraceful outrages against the Crown’s peace in recent memory.

The Assault and the Riot

According to early reports, the villains infiltrated the lockup under cover of the storm, cutting down the night shift without warning. Moments later, freed prisoners were seen rioting through the corridors, shrieking like animals. A single surviving guard and a serving boy escaped the chaos and raised the alarm, summoning reinforcements from the nearby watch post.

When the responders arrived, they found the jail in chaos—doors broken, fires burning, and convicts howling in the rain. Sergeant Yapland of the Civil Guard acted swiftly, forming a cordon to prevent the contagion of anarchy from spilling into the streets. Further detachments soon arrived under Captain Semenyo, who personally led the charge back into the burning facility while Lieutenant Gjokeres held the perimeter against the surge of escaping felons.

Heroic Restoration of Order

Inside the shattered gaol, Captain Semenyo’s Guardsmen fought through the smoke and darkness, reclaiming it cell by cell, and restoring the King’s law where moments before there had been only blood and madness. By dawn, order had been reestablished.

When the count was taken, the scale of the depravity was laid bare:

  • 37 prisoners slain in their cells, butchered by fellow inmates through the bars.
  • 15 found alive and unharmed, owing their safety to the timely arrival of the Guard.
  • 12 rioters recaptured after fierce resistance.

The raiders set fire to the jail records before fleeing, leaving the exact number of escaped convicts uncertain. A provisional tally suggests that nearly one hundred criminals were held at the time of the attack meaning that approximately thirty-six escaped in the confusion. Twenty-five have since been recaptured, several after attacking innocent citizens. Eleven remain unaccounted for, though this figure may fluctuate as the Guard continues its heroic round-the-clock pursuit and investigation.

Atrocities and Sacrifice

Among the fallen are six Guardsmen, slain in the line of duty. One was discovered manacled at the time of death, believed to have been taken hostage by the rioters before being executed. The Royal Standard mourns these brave men as martyrs to civilization itself.

The public is reminded to be vigilant: escaped prisoners are easily recognized by their orange issue garments and their desperate, guilt-ridden demeanor. Any citizen encountering such individuals should summon the Guard immediately and under no circumstances attempt to administer private justice.

Persons of Interest

Authorities have confirmed they wish to question two individuals regarding “certain irregularities” surrounding the event:

  • Mr. “Cut-Me-Own-Throat” Dibbler, itinerant vendor of questionable meat pies, and,
  • Mr. Wolfgang Spicebeard, a dwarf of disreputable occupation and fiery temperament.

Both are described as “persons of interest” and are urged to present themselves at once to the Civil Guard. Citizens possessing information as to their whereabouts are commanded—for the good of Manchester and the realm—to report it without delay.

A Word of Thanks

The Royal Standard, on behalf of the Crown and the loyal citizens of Manchester, extends its profound admiration to the Civil Guard, whose swift and selfless action prevented this night of terror from becoming a full-scale massacre. Their courage in the face of treachery reminds us all that, though the shadows of perfidy may gather, the light of lawful order still burns bright above our city.
