Grand Opening of Northmarch Correctional Bastion Heralds New Era of Justice

By Penrick Vassal, Senior Correspondent for the Royal Standard

With banners unfurled and a chill wind blowing proud from the east, His Excellency the Governor of Cambria, Lord Kanwal, yesterday presided over the consecration of Northmarch Correctional Bastion, a modern triumph in penal architecture and moral philosophy.

The fortress-prison, situated some one hundred and twenty miles north of Manchester amid the rolling plains of Cambria, stands as a “symbol of the Crown’s unflagging commitment to order, discipline, and the humane betterment of the wayward,” according to Lord Kanwal.

“It has long been my conviction,” declared the Governor in his keynote address, “that a society’s greatness may be measured by the magnificence of its prisons and the punctuality of its paperwork. In these matters, Archea shall yield to none.”

Constructed of locally quarried graystone and boasting twenty foot walls, a moat, a chapel, and an infirmary for the medically indisposed, the Bastion will house up to one thousand offenders transferred from overcrowded gaols across the realm. Its opening, officials say, will “alleviate pressure upon municipal lockups and restore tranquility to our urban centers.”

“Let it never be said that Archea forgets her most incorrigible children,” Lord Kanwal continued, “for within these hallowed cells they shall contemplate their misdeeds in the invigorating air of the North, under conditions both secure and uplifting. Truly, we build not merely walls, but character.”

The Governor further praised the “fine partnership between the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Brickmaking,” lauding the project’s timely completion—only fourteen months behind schedule—and assuring citizens that reports of “minor budgetary misunderstandings” were “grossly exaggerated by individuals unfamiliar with arithmetic.”

Prisoners are expected to begin arriving within the fortnight, transported by guarded wagon from throughout the empire. The Ministry confirmed that a portion of the incoming population will include “political detainees of the educational variety,” though Lord Kanwal emphasized that “no one is imprisoned for their opinions—merely for the disorderly expression thereof.”

Local residents expressed cautious optimism that the new facility will bring stable employment and a wholesome fear of authority to the region.

“We expect only the finest sort of convicts,” the Governor concluded grandly, “and I have every confidence they shall appreciate the hospitality of our dungeons as befits loyal subjects of the Crown.”

The Royal Standard extends its heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency and the Ministries involved in this shining testament to Archean civilization. May Northmarch Bastion stand eternal as a beacon of discipline, deterrence, and decorative masonry.

Editorial: Victory Day — The Dawn of Civilization’s Triumph Over Darkness

By The Editorial Board, The Royal Standard

As the banners of Archea once more unfurl above the proud streets of Manchester, and the bands rehearse their martial hymns for Victory Day, every loyal citizen is called upon to remember what this sacred holiday truly represents:

The eternal triumph of Light over Darkness, of Civilization over Savagery, and of Archean virtue over the monstrous depredations of the fallen empire of Goghol Mogh.

It has been five centuries since that dread realm—an abomination raised by the orcish tyrant-kings and their sorcerous high-priests—was at last crushed beneath the righteous armies of Archea and her noble allies. Yet memory must not dim with the passing of years, for the crimes of Goghol Mogh were crimes not merely against nations, but against decency itself.

Let the record stand:

  • They sacrificed the innocent to feed their warlocks’ forges.
  • They flayed the learned so that knowledge might never contradict the will of their shamans.
  • They bred beasts of unnatural size and hunger to march beside their armies, a menagerie of horror unleashed upon peaceful villages.
  • And their so-called “citizens”—those wretches now remembered as the feral orcs—cheered these cruelties with bestial delight.

It was Archea, beacon of reason and mercy, that stood firm when the world quailed. Archea that raised its standard—our Standard!—and drove the legions of darkness back into their pits. Our ancestors fought not for conquest but for salvation, to cleanse the earth of that pestilence of chaos and restore the divine order ordained by crown and creed.

Today, as fireworks bloom and parades fill our avenues, let none forget that the vigilance of the present must equal the valor of the past. For though the empire of Goghol Mogh lies in ruins, its remnants skulk still among us: feral orc tribes haunting the Cambrian countryside, raiding caravans, burning farms, and defying the peace so dearly purchased by Archean blood.

Each fresh outrage reminds us that evil, like a weed, withers only when trampled. The Ministries of War and Interior stand ever watchful, their work made lighter by the courage of loyal citizens who report malign movements, dark gatherings, or suspicious religious observances. It is the sacred duty of every man and woman of Archea to guard the borders of civilization—not merely with sword and spear, but with vigilance, with faith, and with unwavering confidence in the justice of our realm.

Let the bells ring! Let the drums thunder! And when they do, let every heart swell with the knowledge that Archea triumphed once over darkness—and shall do so again whenever the shadows dare to stir.
