Captain Nelson’s Letter to M. Crezia

A shadowy figure lurks outside of M. Crezia's door as, inside the office, we see a letter dimly lit by a lamp.
M. Crezia stumbles into more than he can handle!

To: M. Crezia, Ministry of the Interior
From: Capt. A. Nelson
Via: Unofficial Channels – Do Not Log

M.,

I received your message.

Forgive the brevity, but you must understand—this is a dangerous time to be corresponding with anyone. If you are who you say you are (and I have no way of knowing that you are), then I thank you for your concern. If you are not, then I have said nothing, and you will find nothing in this letter worth forwarding.

The situation here is worse than I can explain in writing. I’ve made too many overtures to the wrong people already. Too many doors have quietly shut. Too many eyes I once trusted now watch me a little too closely.

If your intentions are sincere, then for your own safety, make no further attempt to contact me. I cannot guarantee this message won’t be intercepted, or that I haven’t already drawn attention to your name by responding at all.

There are things moving in the dark here. And not all of them come from outside the walls.

If someone can come, let it be someone with no official ties. Someone who knows how to keep quiet. And someone who understands that truth can get a man killed.

Tell no one else.

— Captain Alistair Nelson

P.S. If you’re being watched already, burn this. If not—burn it anyway.
