I know it’s been years since we shared a watchtower and a bottle of Kestrel’s Flame, but I’ve no one else I trust to hear what I’m about to say without either laughing it off or locking me up.
Cambria is sick. Not just the usual unrest and bandits you and I dealt with a dozen times before. I mean something deep-rooted, spreading, and wrong. I’ve seen documents vanish from sealed archives. I’ve seen peasants hanged for crimes no one will name. I’ve seen things rise in the fields at night and no one will talk about them. I’ve found things I can’t explain—things I’ve burned and still can’t stop seeing.
I’ve filed reports. I’ve spoken to the Governor—charming man, utterly worthless. I’ve tried the chain of command. No one listens. No one wants to listen.
