THE VEIL LIFTS ON THE SOVEREIGN STREET OUTRAGE!

Crown Investigators Unmask the Methods of the Midnight Marauders

Six Fugitives, One Dwarf, and an Entire Band of Villains Still at Large

In a stunning advancement in the ongoing investigation of the infamous jailbreak at the Subsidiary Detention Center, Crown investigators have now reconstructed—in chilling clarity—the sequence of events that plunged our fair city into chaos. The revelations, described by one Palace official as “deeply discomfiting,” shed new light on the depravity, cunning, and ruthlessness of the perpetrators.

The Treacherous Infiltration

Investigators have confirmed that Mr. “Cut-Me-Own-Throat” Dibbler and the fugitive dwarf Wolfgang Spicebeard gained entry to the detention facility prior to the jailbreak itself by posing as humble purveyors of meat pies.

The day shift guards, demonstrating the Crown’s well-known commitment to the humane treatment of prisoners, permitted the pair to distribute the ostensibly charitable pies throughout the cellblocks.

This act of goodwill was repaid with vile treachery.

Thaumically assisted witness statements indicate that Dibbler and Spicebeard used this opportunity to map the entire interior of the prison, noting guard rotations, key stations, and structural vulnerabilities. One Guard spokesperson summarized it grimly, “They weaponized kindness. It is difficult to conceive of a more shameful stratagem.”

The Composition of the Raider Band

Through corroborated testimony aided by divinatory reconstruction, authorities have confirmed the raiding party consisted of:

  • One halfling
  • Wolfgang Spicebeard, mountain dwarf and wanted conspirator
  • A human barbarian
  • Two human spellcasters
  • A human master of unarmed combat
  • Two human men-at-arms

These eight assailants worked with calculated precision and brutality.

A Familiar in Play

Investigators further report that the halfling and Spicebeard infiltrated the basement by means of a coal chute, accompanied by an owl—almost certainly a wizard’s familiar, as owls are not commonly found indoors at midnight in the company of criminals.

The remaining raiders attacked via the ground-floor side entrance, cutting down loyal Guardsmen before they could raise proper alarm. It is believed the familiar played a significant role in pre-raid reconnaissance.

The Targeted Extraction

The Royal Standard can confirm that three prisoners were intentionally sought out and freed by the raiders:

  • Silas Venn
  • Taron Kenning
  • Renn Talcott

These individuals departed the facility alongside their liberators, suggesting pre-existing conspiracy.

The Spark of the Riot

The Guard further reports that Wolfgang Spicebeard, acting with callous indifference to cover the retreat of the raiders, deliberately opened three additional cell doors and threw the ring of keys to the mob, triggering the deadly cascade of violence that followed.

Released prisoners immediately freed their allies and fell upon their enemies. The violence spread like wildfire. One manacled Guard—unable to defend himself—was slain during the chaos. The last surviving night-guard and a serving-boy barely escaped with their lives.

The Faces of the Raiders

Though identifying names has proven challenging, the Crown has released detailed reconstructions of the raiders’ appearances. Citizens are urged to study these images carefully and report even the slightest lead.

It is known that Wolfgang Spicebeard lodged at The Heroes’ Respite along with his co-conspirators. Regrettably, the inn’s lack of guest documentation—and the suspiciously poor memories of its staff and patrons—has thus far hindered identification.

In addition, authorities seek a man matching the description of a large human of intimidating build, believed to have been observed loitering near the Subsidiary Detention Center in the days immediately preceding the attack.

According to a sworn civilian statement, the witness—whose identity is being withheld for his protection—was present in an alley adjacent to the prison wall on the evening before the jailbreak when he observed an unidentified figure scaling the exterior masonry with alarming ease. As the witness turned to comment on this suspicious activity, he encountered the suspect.

He was a tall, powerfully built man of dark complexion, whose presence the witness described as “sudden” and “overwhelming.” When the witness exclaimed, “Did you see that?” the man reportedly responded with sustained eye contact and a series of forceful instructions insisting—repeatedly—that nothing at all had been seen.

The witness, shaken and fearing for his safety, immediately departed the area. Though initially reluctant to come forward, he did so courageously after learning of the subsequent assault on the prison and the loss of Guard life.

With the aid of thaumically assisted questioning and divinatory reconstruction, Crown investigators have produced a composite likeness of this individual. Authorities believe this man may be connected to the jailbreak, either as a scout, enforcer, or intimidator acting in concert with the raiders.

Citizens are urged to report any sightings of individuals matching this description. The Crown reminds the public that intimidation of witnesses is a grave offense, and that those who attempt to silence loyal subjects will face the full weight of the law.

Captured and Still at Large

Mistress Branna Coil, the arsonist and alchemical menace, has been successfully recaptured.

However, six escapees remain unaccounted for, alongside Wolfgang and the rest of his unidentified band. Authorities warn that these criminals have demonstrated extreme disregard for Guard lives and public safety.

Justice Looms for the Dastardly Dibbler

Mr. “Cut-Me-Own-Throat” Dibbler remains in Crown custody, where he is presently undergoing the most rigorous and lawful forms of inquiry authorized under the Moral and Civic Safeguarding Act.

The Royal Standard calls, without hesitation, for the fullest measure of justice allowable under Crown law for him and all conspirators in this vile attack.

A Final Word

The Civil Guard and the Crown’s magisters continue their relentless pursuit of the truth. Manchester may rest assured that Order will prevail, villains will be captured, and treachery will not go unpunished.

Stay vigilant.

Stay loyal.

And trust that the Crown’s justice—though patient—is inexorable.
